Lawn Care Program

Approved by and developed according to the guidelines of the University of Connecticut.

Spring

  • SOIL TEST - to determine pH - Apply LIME if necessary.
  • CRABGRASS PRE-EMERGENT CONTROL - before May 1.
    Note: Forsythia bloom is a natural indicator for crabgrass germination - application must be timed accordingly. Also, be aware that certain products prohibit new seeding for 3 months

    CONSULT OUR LAWN SPECIALISTS TO DETERMINE WHICH PRODUCT IS BEST FOR YOUR LAWN.

  • SEED - Reseeding, if necessary, during April-May.
  • FERTILIZER - (30-4-4) or FERTILIZER W/TRIMEC at Memorial Day.

Summer

  • MERIT - for grub control during June or July.
  • OFTANOL, SEVIN 7G, or DURSBAN - for surface insect & tick control
  • CRABGRASS POST-EMERGENT CONTROL - to be applied during hot, dry weather.
  • DYLOX - for grub control (Japanese beetle larvae) after August 15
  • Fertilizer- Super Green Power with I.B.D.U. (hydrolosis slow-release fertilizer)
Fall
  • FERTILIZER - (10-16-20) with or without TRIMEC WEED CONTROL at Labor Day will promote deeper root growth to strengthen your lawn for winter survival.
  • SEED - This is the BEST time for new seeding, overseeding or SODDING.
Winter
  • LIME - after leaf clean-up on clean ground.
  • FERTILIZER - (30-0-15) at Thanksgiving or after ground freezes. This application will slowly release nitrogen to the lawn all winter
